How do I become a Certified Escrow Specialist?

Method 1 - Colorado Title Institute

An applicant must have 5 years of full time experience in the title industry, have a valid Colorado Producer’s license, be employed by a member in good standing of Land Title Association of Colorado and complete the following basic classes and pass exams with at least a 75% score:

  • Advanced Escrow
  • Commercial Escrow
  • Deeds and Conveyances
  • Liens and Encumbrances
  • Title 101
  • A real estate contract class through an accredited provider or LTAC
  • PLUS 16 additional hours of Colorado Title Institute Classes**

You may also opt to test out of any of the core courses above by achieving a passing grade of 75% on the exam.

Method 2 - American Land Title Association Courses

An applicant must have 5 years of full time experience in the title industry, have a valid Colorado Producer’s license, be employed by a member in good standing of Land Title Association of Colorado and must complete the following basic classes and pass exams with at least a 75% score:

  • ALTA Course - Title 101
  • ALTA Course - Title 201
  • Advanced Escrow
  • Commercial Escrow
  • A real estate contract class through an accredited provider or LTAC
  • PLUS 16 additional hours of Colorado Title Institute Classes

Once a candidate has received their C.E.S.S. Designation, they must complete 8 hours of continuing education every 2 years, maintain their Colorado Producer's license, and be employed by an LTAC member in good standing in order to maintain the designation.

** A credit of 8 classroom hours will be given for the ALTA 101 and/or the ALTA 201 course towards the re-quired 16 additional hours, upon submission of certificate.
