How do I become a Certified Title Insurance Specialist?

Method 1 - Colorado Title Institute

An applicant must  have 5 years of full time experience in the title industry and complete the following basic classes and pass exams with at least a 75% score:

  • Deeds and Conveyances
  • Liens and Encumbrances
  • Legal Descriptions
  • Escrow and Closing Procedures
  • Colorado Title Licensing Course
  • Policies and Endorsement
  • PLUS 16 additional hours of Colorado Title Institute Classes**

Method 2 - American Land Title Association Courses (ALTA)

An applicant must  have 5 years of full time experience in the title industry and must complete the following basic classes and pass exams with at least a 75% score:

  • ALTA Course 1
  • ALTA Course 2
  • Colorado Title Licensing Course
  • Policies and Endorsement
  • PLUS 16 additional hours of Colorado Title Institute Classes**

Method 3 - Test Out

In order to use this option, you must have 5 years of full time experience in the title industry.  Passing grade of 75% must be achieved though an exam for each of the following classes:

  • Deeds and Conveyances
  • Liens and Encumbrances
  • Legal Descriptions
  • Escrow and Closing Procedures
  • Colorado Title Licensing Course
  • Policies and Endorsement
  • PLUS 16 additional hours of Colorado Title Institute Classes**

* Once a candidate had received their C.T. I.S.  Designation they must have 6 hours of continuing education every 2 years, in order to maintain the designation. 
** A credit of 8 classroom hours will be given for each of the ALTA courses completed and certificate submitted towards the required 16 additional hours.
